A Story Unfolds: Renewing Church Community….
If you could participate in a renewed faith movement that seeks relationships over propositions, enables leaders over restricting gifts, embraces those with new ideas, that doesn't react or respond but creates and initiates, would you be interested?
Would you opt for community and spirituality over systems of religion? Are you thinking about participating in your community and networks but can't find the movement that would support you?
This is the beginning of the story behind Calgary Church....
In our city the skyscrapers and the classroom are busy with people engaged in a global and ceaseless dance that connects and disconnects with the world. The purpose? Meet goals to achieve status, achieve power, achieve one more $ to our $$$.
Is this the entirety of our purpose in life?
Is our significance and purpose reliant on the inflation of our merit and impermanence of more dollars? Or, is there something more?
The urban center bursts with more inhabitants yet simultaneously our sense of community and relationships erode. We live closer together in our high-rises and houses, stand closer together on our buses and trains, and feel closer together through our technology and media.
We exist closer, but still, we are lonely.
Isn't there some way to recapture what we are losing? Deep and lasting relationships with with neighbours, with friends, even with family?
Humanity exists with an innate desire to connect, a desire for lasting community, relationships...a yearning to be loved.
Does our longing have room for a loving God?
There are stories unfolding around us. Stories about colleagues, friends, family, me, and you. Some travel without purpose, some without identity, most without eternal love....
What's your story?
In 2008, a team of leaders sought to express and experience a community joined in the mission of God’s desire to reclaim, rescue, and redeem humanity in the variety of cultures in Calgary.
We are compelled to become cultural leaders connecting with people we can curiously journey with along the path towards God's reign on earth as announced through the life of Jesus Christ. That means combining networks who share a desire to join God's plan of redeeming our city, can communicate the gospel message in a language their friends, not those in 'church', can understand, and who seek to engage in the beauty and social injustices of our city.
This ambition is God-sized and our mission requires the right people who share our curiosity and desire.
